  • Do you have young climbers (ages 7+) in the family who are ready to join you and tackle the tallest walls in the gym, but don’t have a certified belayer yet? Come in for a Climb Time!
  • No previous experience required. Spots are limited to 4 climbers per staff belayer – reservations are required

*Know how to Lead Climb? Lead Climbing can be accommodated depending on staff availability.

First time climbers (Ages 13+)

Step 1:

Choose which type of climbing you want.

Top Rope Climbing gives you access to our 55′ walls in our rope room. It’s our recommended starting point for new climbers. You’ll be tied into a rope that is fixed to an anchor above you keeping you always on belay from your partner. You’ll need to take our Top Rope Belay Class (see step 2)

bouldering in ripon california gym

Bouldering is climbing without a rope on shorter walls up to 16′. All you need are climbing shoes and chalk. No experience necessary.

Step 2:

Our team will teach you how to belay!

Experienced climbers

You're new to Alpine but not new to climbing. Here are some pro-tips to make your visit go awesome!

PRO-TIPS

Our full list of rules are posted throughout the facility and are expected to be followed at all times. A few pointers:

  • All climbers must sign our waiver before entering the facility.
  • We are an inclusive facility and have a wide range of climbers. If you’re a 5.13+ climber, be cool and help the 5.9 climber progress.
  • We follow a monochromatic style of route setting (follow the colors).
  • We use -, solid, + in our facility vs. a, b, c, d. Example: 5.11- could be 5.11a/b.
  • All volumes are on all the time.
  • Headphones are allowed in our bouldering area. NO HEADPHONES are allowed while on a rope or belaying.
  • We have a lot of kids and families. Please watch your language.

Every climber MUST pass our belay test in order to belay. We have Fixed GriGri’s on all of our top ropes. You will be given a belay card that you must have present on your harness at all times. Upon arrival and purchasing your Day Pass, ask one of our team members for a belay check. We will be looking for:

  1. Correctly tying in with a figure-8 follow through knot with sufficient tail on the rope.
  2. Correctly operating a Petzl GriGri.
  3. Alpine requires the PBUS (pull, brake, under, slide) style of belaying for all climbers.

Every climber MUST pass our lead belay test in order to belay. Upon passing, you will be given a belay card that you must have present on your harness at all times. Upon arrival and purchasing your Day Pass, ask one of our team members for a belay check. We will be looking for:

  1. Bring your own rope (35 meters or longer) and your own GriGri. GriGri’s are the only belay device allowed in our facility. Don’t have one? You can rent one.
  2. Correctly operating a Petzl GriGri. During the test, climbers will be required to lead up to a 5.10-, take a fall, and demonstrate proper lead climbing, clipping, belay techniques, and slack management.
  3. Alpine requires the PBUS (pull, brake, under, slide) style of belaying for all climbers.

Frequently asked questions

Awesome! Welcome to rock climbing!

  1. All participants must fill out our waiver. Parents and court appointed legal guardians ONLY can fill out a child’s waiver. (Scroll to the top and click on waiver).
  2. Choose what type of climbing you want! We highly recommend you start with our top rope belay class. This will give you access to our entire facility and give you a FREE 2 WEEK MEMBERSHIP!
    • If you’re 13+, you can attend the top rope belay class and learn how to use the ropes. If you do not take the class, your access will be limited to bouldering and the adventure center.
    • If you’re 12-, we recommend Mom/Dad come take the class first so they can belay their child on their next visit. Without a certified belayer, the 12- access will be limited to the Adventure Center.

No. Not at this time. However, we stronger encourage you book your Top Rope Class in advance. We will do our best to accommodate walk-ins but there is no guarantee we will be able to do your class upon arrival.

If you just plan on bouldering or doing an Adventure Center Session, visitors are processed on a first come first serve basis.

Your children 12 and under must be directly supervised at all times within the facility.

*If you plan on belaying, additional supervision is required for the child(ren) not climbing*

*Supervising is directly watching the children to ensure their safety. It’s NOT reading a book, staring at your cell phone, or distracted talking to others across the room.*

We recommend either (1) coming on a separate visit to take your top rope class and get acclimated with the facility, then your next visit you can take a top rope test and begin belaying them, or (2) Bringing a dedicated supervisor to supervise the children while you’re taking your belay class, or (3) Enjoy climbing together in the Adventure Center.

Kids 13 and older can be unsupervised in the facility. They can climb while you workout.

Kids 12 and under must be directly supervised at all times in the facility. You cannot workout and supervise your children at the same time.

No. If you are directly supervising your children only, you do not need to pay. This includes belaying your kids if you can pass our belay test.
