Tell us about your family
Meet the Goodwins! Melinda grew up in Fresno and moved for a teaching job. Tom grew up in Modesto and is a real estate appraiser. They have been married for two years!
tell us about your climbing background
Melinda grew up climbing unconventionally through climbing trees in her front of her childhood home. Tom grew up climbing through Boy Scouts. They both love outdoor activities and found that climbing naturally fit into their lifestyle.
why did you join alpine?
They found that Alpine was an extremely clean and nice facility. They had always wanted to be apart of a community that provides a nice space for them to do a hobby they love together and that’s what they found in Alpine. They love that the route setters take time in diligently setting routes that are challenging and creative.
what advice would you give to a new climber?
Both Melinda and Tom use different techniques of climbing to achieve their goals. Melinda finds that the best way to grow as a climber is to not neglect to use your feet to position yourself in a better space on the wall.
