MEMBER OF THE MONTH - LISA WU
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
Meet crusher Lisa Wu. Her, her boyfriend Ryan and her daughter Hazel (3.5yr) are all members at Alpine. Lisa is a teacher and loves the spirit of teaching.
WHAT IS YOUR CLIMBING BACKGROUND
I started climbing in 2009 (12 years ago) in a gym like most people. I was then introduced to outdoor climbing and it DID NOT GO WELL my first time! I was ready to give up but had support from great friends and worked through my fears. I now LOVE TRAD CLIMBING outside. I climb in the gym to train to go outside.
WHY DID YOU JOIN ALPINE
Alpine was just an opportunity that came up. I was living a pretty good disance away from the climbing gym I was at before. I saw this place getting built from the ground up cause I was driving by it almost every day. We were waiting in anticipation for it to open! As soon as it did we were in here the first week, taking our tour, getting Hazel in to look at it. Once we got here it feels like we never left!
WHY DO YOU LOVE ALPINE
There are many things I like about Alpine, but the #1 thing is the community! The employees and the owners actually get to know us and care about us and make us feel so welcome. It feels like home, and because climbing is such a big part of my life, Alpine is really where I want to be and the community are the people I want to be around. The feeling of being here is like nothing else. Alpine also has a ton to offer with the gym, yoga, offerings for Hazel, the hours, the people! Sometimes I’m here multiple times a day.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE INTERESTED IN CLIMBING AND A TOTAL NOOB?
For new climbers or anyone interested in getting better, my advice is to CLIMB MORE! Spend more time in here and on the wall and you’ll begin to progress. Also find people who have more experience. Put yourself out there. Don’t be afraid to ask somebody for advice or just say “hi” to people. Alpine is a very friendly place. I’m a teacher and love to teach.
Lisa is one of the strongest crushers in the gym. Her passion for climbing, adventure and the community are contagious. If you’re looking for beta, a catch, a total noob and need advice, she always has a smile on her face and willing to help! Thanks Lisa for making Alpine what is is; a community of climbers, adventure seekers and outdoor enthusiasts. We look forward to watching you continue to crush!
